JAPANESE-AMERICAN ORGANIZATIONS

Japanese American Citizens' League
The JACL, the nation's oldest and largest Asian American civil rights organization, was founded in 1929 to address issues of discrimination targeted specifically at persons of Japanese ancestry residing in the U.S.

JACL Seattle Chapter
This site says the organization "has been unafraid to tackle difficult and, often, controversial issues related to the wartime experience of our community and other civil rights issues. The exceptional pioneers who sustained our organization during one of the most difficult periods in US history laid a strong foundation for the work of future generations of Japanese Americans who believe strongly in the principles of justice, equality and fair play."

JACL Portland Chapter
The Portland Chapter's site offers a newsletter, etc.

JACL Pacific Southwest District
This organization represents over 7,500 members and 32 chapters located throughout Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada.

The Japanese American Chamber of Commerce of Silicon Valley
This organization in San Jose, CA, exists to support member's business interests through developing mutually beneficial commercial and social relationships with regional, national and global partners in both the private and public sectors, along with recognizing the unique Japanese American cultural heritage.

California Japanese American Alumni Association
The CJAAA mission is to provide academic sholarships, fellowships, and internships to undergraduate and graduate students of Japanese American ancestry enrolled at the University of California campuses.

EDUCATIONAL / HISTORIC

The Woodward Fund
Walt and Milly Woodward, publishers of The Bainbridge Review, took a couragous stand during World War II on behalf of American citizens, in particular those of the Japanese American community.  In their memory, BIJAC has established a non-profit fund whose charge it is to promote the principles of the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights.
Densho
A nonprofit organization documenting oral histories called The Japanese American Legacy Project is part of a new curriculum co-developed with Stanford University.

The National Japanese American Historical Society
NJAHS, founded in 1980 in San Francisco, is a non-profit membership supported organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of materials relating to the history and culture of Japanese Americans. It specializes in travelling exhibitions, publications, videos, interactive multimedia, military and camp collections, and educational programs.

Father Ryan High School
A site maintained by students in the Honors Computer Science Class at Father Ryan High School in Nashville, Tennessee. They "feel that to a degree, our (the United States') internment of American citizens of Japanese ancestry is strikingly similar to Nazi Germany's treatment of the Jewish, minus the "Final Solution." Main website of this non-profit organization, founded in 1956, now spread to over 60 countries with approximately 9,000 members. Good flower-arranging tips, examples, etc. McDavis Associates, Inc. produces the organization's quarterly English-language magazine.

This non-profit community organization's mission is "to create an environment on Bainbridge Island in which the arts and humanities flourish."
. Bainbridge Island Downtown Association
Its mission is to enhance our historic downtown as the vital center of Bainbridge Island life. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has designated this group (formerly Team Winslow) as a National Main Street Community Organization, one of only nine in Washington State.
